Youth Mentoring works with minority males at Gaithersburg Middle School to build resilience, develop pro-social skills and attitudes and minimize the influence of street gangs, bullying, negative peer pressure and drug/alcohol use.  The program has been designed to intervene before students reach high school to address the potential adolescents problem behaviors associated with poor student attendance, academic and social problems that result in disconnect from school and student drop-out.

The Youth Mentoring Program offers:

  • Structured weekly meetings and guest speakers
  • After school tutoring and mentoring
  • Weekend activities and trips
  • Leadership retreats
  • Peer mediation and conflict resolution
  • Service projects in the community
  • College tours
  • Leadership training and career awareness
  • Youth advocacy in school and community
  • An alternative to gang involvement
  • Student retention and dropout prevention
