Transitional Age Youth (TAY): A Transition to Adulthood Program

Attaining self-sufficiency and assuming responsibility for their lives is a gradual process for young people. The TAY Program is a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program for transitional aged youth (TAY) who require assistance to help facilitate the transition to adult life. The Program provides psychiatric rehabilitation in an effort to promote recovery by facilitating the development of an individual's independent living and social skills, including the individual's ability to make decisions regarding: life, work, and community participation.

Services Include

Day Program and Outreach

Both the Day Program and Outreach Services provide assistance to youth to achieve their rehabilitation goals. The day program provides daily structured activities in a group setting, and outreach staff members are available to work with TAY in the community on an individual basis.

Supportive Employment Program

The vocational program helps TAY clients obtain and keep competitive permanent employment. There are no requirements for individuals to be “work-ready” or have an employment history.

Residential Program

The Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRP) provides intensive level services to male TAY clients whose recovery benefits from housing that is staff supervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents of the program may also participate in employment services and/or attend the day program.

Eligibility Requirements

Young adults (ages 18 - 25) living with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities who have a psychiatric diagnosis are eligible to participate in TAY. (The RRP is limited to referrals from the Montgomery County Core Service Agency.)
