Supporting Children and Families of Incarcerated Parents in Montgomery County, MD

Having a parent in prison can have an impact on a child's mental health, social behavior and educational prospects.  The emotional trauma that may occur and the practical difficulties of a disrupted family life can  be compounded by the social stigma that children may face as a result of have a parent in prison or jail.

Creating Healthy Bonds (CHB) provides FREE supportive services to families in Montgomery County, MD that have been impacted by incarceration. CHB is designed to serve children of incarceration, providing counseling support, parenting and case management services in the community for children, caregivers, and ultimately the incarcerated parent(s) upon their release.  CHB provides parallel programming in the form of support and parenting education/coaching to parents placed in the Montgomery County Correctional facility for any length of time. 

Our Comprehensive Wrap-Around Services Include:

  • Individual and family counseling services for youth ages 5-18 years old
  • Case management services for caregivers
  • Parenting support groups for female inmates at Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF)
  • Caregiver Support Groups
  • Recreational activities for children and caregivers

What is the referral process? 

Clients are referred to Creating Healthy Bonds from Montgomery County Correctional Facility, Montgomery County Public Schools and other community agencies throughout Montgomery County, MD.
