The assembly is a part of a state wide campaign to remove the stigma from children's mental issues and to highlight resources to help. Montgomery County Councilmember, Sidney Katz, former Mayor of Gaithersburg, will be Master of Ceremonies for the May 20th concert at Forest Oak Middle School.

Following the concert at Gaithersburg Middle School, a special VIP reception will be held in honor of Carol Goddard, Principal of Gaithersburg Middle School, who has been a strong mental health advocate for her students. The reception was created also to recognize the charitable work of American Idol star, Shi Scott, who is a Montgomery Village native and a graduate of Gaithersburg High School.

Family Services, Inc. holds Children's Mental Health Matters Assemblies each year to highlight the impact of mental health issues on children's well-being. The last two years have seen an uptick in youth suicides and crisis center referrals in Montgomery County. Greater awareness of children's mental health issues is the assembly's ultimate goal.
